Council were faced with a local crisis owing to the lack of a hangman. How they solved the problemis based on historical fact but is none the less funny for that. Hangman's Noose the most popular play in the 1951 one-act festival is an excerpt from Johnnie Jouk the Gibbet. There are 10 characters, five men and five women, no change of setting and has already been voted by the critics as T. M. Watson's most important contribution to the Scottish Theatre.
