The Board of Glenshoogle Parish Church meets to discuss the usual mundane matters, not least the arrival of the new minister Godfrey Goodchild, who is there with his wife. Naturally, everyone wants to create a good impression except local farmer, Jock Smith, who has not recovered from the minister's inaugural two-hour sermon. The situation quickly degenerates into farce, and the laughter is unrelenting, right up to the uproarious finale. The diversity of the characters gives the play great chemistry, and although originally written for the north east dialect, it can easily be performed anywhere. The play can be staged with the minimum of set, or even no set at all.
