Item details
This is an adaptation into Scots of Moliere's world-famous comedy, Tartuffe. It takes place in Edinburgh in the late 17th century. The Holy Terror is the Rev. Isaac Tarland, a pious mountebank who has completely hoodwinked the prosperous Edinburgh Jeweller and Goldsmith, Archibald Ogilvie. By degrees he takes over his house and his fortune, and if given any encouragement he would also take over his wife, Clarissa. That lady has other ideas, however, and with the help of her quick-witted servant Etta the Holy Terror is unmasked and foiled.
