With the help of a book on Public Speaking, he makes laborious efforts to write an impromptu (!) speech. This book advises voice culture, posture, polished language, etc., but Mrs. McFarlane's advice is, "Open your mouth and the Lord will fill it''. John's attempt at both methods provide excellent comedy.
