Item details
The Slippy Stane is a comedy of rural Scottish life, the setting throughout being the homely domicile of the village blacksmith. The action centres round a " Country Concert'' arranged by the smith's ambitious son. Alec, who follows his father's calling, falls in love with Marjorie Benson, an English visitor, but their friendship is frowned upon by her snobbish aunt and also by the members of his own family. Complications arise, but the unexpected appearance of a tramp, who turns out to be Marjorie's father, levels up the situation, and the curtain falls on the young couple starting out to face life ? together. The play is neatly constructed, the characters are remarkably true to life and abound in pawky humour.
