A shipwrecked sailor returns reluctantly to his scolding wife and his shrewish mother-in-law, to discover, to his great relief, that he has been assumed to be dead, and has been replaced in the household by a new husband. Each of the men imagines that now he is free from his matrimonial shackles, a suggestion that is strongly opposed by the other, but in the end, after much wrangling on the subject, and a ludicrous quarrel, both of them escape. A rollicking farcical comedy.
